"If you don’t make the effort to read it, listen to it, watch it, attend it or hang around those that have it, you will never get it. If you never get it, it is impossible to give it. What if everyone took your approach to personal development?" With What They Died For Additional Info Page
Have you ever really thought about the freedom and the opportunities we have in this country? I admit, we sometimes take it for granted and don't appreciate it. I know you are aware of this but it did not occur by itself! It was intentional, not accidental. How do you live your life? Intentionally or accidentally? Listen to the first verse and chorus of this song I've just written.
Well, can you tell a mother of a child that has died at war that you are proud of what you have done with what they died for? What have you done with the freedom and opportunity you have been given? Freedom and Opportunity are there for all of us but the way we speak, act and vote gets us closer to or further from our goal. Is your life just a whisper or can you shout it loud? What are you doing to change your situation? What will we pass on to the next generation? Read on. Take the "With What They Died For" Challenge. ![]() Now available on iTunes or on CD! Thanks to Chip and Frank at Smart Productions in Nash, Texas for their assistance on both projects. Dear Fellow American, It's funny how 48 hours can bring something to light and make it so clear. On a Saturday night we attended an outside concert with friends. It was a beautiful night, light breeze, great music and fellowship. After an hour of music, I told my friend Lee (who is a veteran)how great it was to have the freedom to live in a country without fear. I feel we sometimes take that for granted and forget how this was achieved. Lee agreed. I am so thankful for our military, police and fire departments that provide a country where I am not in constant fear and have the freedom to go and do. Sunday morning I attended church and had the same feeling of gratitude and appreciation. Not every country can do what I have done that weekend. Fast forward 31 hours. I am presenting a review of a songwriting class I attended in Dallas to a local association. At the end of my presentation, I shared this song I began writing two weeks prior to this meeting and finished the day of the meeting. It is a tribute to our military, police and fire departments. Below are a verse and the chorus:
At the conclusion of the song a visitor in the meeting spoke up. She said, "I am that mother. It was just like you said. He received a letter from his country. My son left to serve his country and did not come back. Thank you for writing that song to honor him." This was all the validation I will ever need for songwriting. I was so thankful for the inspiration to write this song. It also renewed my committment to live up to the first line of the chorus; Are you proud of what you've done with what they've died for? This page is dedicated to the individuals that served in our military, our police forces and fire departments that gave the ultimate sacrifice, their life, to serve others. It's also a challenge to all of us to get "Our House" in order. What if you rated different aspects of your life on a 1-10 scale? Would you be proud to share the results? Click HERE to print out "My Life Scorecard" to take assesment of different aspects of your life. Thank you for visiting our site and my sincere gratitude to all the individuals and families that have sacrificed for our country, their state, city or community. Let's all make an effort to close the gap between our performance and our potential. We offer MY LIFE APPRAISAL to form a plan and track progresss but if not "My Life Appraisal", please use something. We should all be proud of what we have done with what they died for. God Bless, Greg Gilbert |
